Your voice mail acts as an automated call answering service. It will offer the caller the option of leaving a message whenever you are unavailable or unwilling to answer a call. It gives you the ability to retrieve, reply and send messages from any telephone. A special dial tone lets you know there a message waiting for you. If you have a phone with a Message Waiting Indicator, a light will flash to let you know you have a message waiting.
